# What is Casper Network and CSPR

## Casper Network

[Casper Network](https://casper.network/en-us/casper) is a Layer-1 proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain launched on March 31st, 2021. It has been built for real-world applications without sacrificing security, usability, decentralization, or scalability.

The protocol is designed with a focus on flexible privacy permissions, low latency, and security. It allows you to choose between public permissions and private network iterations depending on their confidentiality preferences.

## CSPR

CSPR is the native coin of the Casper proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain.

Casper relies on CSPR tokens to reward validators who participate in the proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism in order to secure and maintain the network.

Token type is Utility.
